A Public Hearing before the Washington County Planning Commission will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. or as soon thereafter as may be heard in the Board Auditorium, County Government Center, 1 Government Center Place, Abingdon, Virginia, to consider the following proposed ordinance. After the hearing, the Commission will determine a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. The Washington County Board of Supervisors will then conduct a Public Hearing on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 6:30 P.M. in the Board Auditorium, County Government Center, 1 Government Center Place, Abingdon, Virginia, to consider the recommendation of the Planning Commission on the proposed ordinance, as follows:
An Ordinance to revise the Code of the County of Washington, Virginia, to add ‘Article IV- Pawnbrokers And Precious Metals Dealers” to Chapter 18 “Businesses”, to revise Appendix A to set related fees, and to revise Sections 1, 298, 323, 447, and 472 of Chapter 66 (Zoning) to define and allow Pawnbroker and Precious Metals Dealer with Special Exception Permit in the Agricultural Districts, Limited and General (A-1 and A-2) and as Permitted Uses in the Business Districts, Limited and General (B-1 and B-2).
Adoption of the ordinance would allow pawnbrokers and precious metals dealers to operate in the A-1 and A-2 zoning districts if granted a special exception permit and in the B-1 and B-2 zoning districts as generally permitted uses. The ordinance would establish rules for operation of these businesses in accordance with state law requirements and would set fees for processing applications for the license or permit for such operation.
