WASHINGTON COUNTY, VIRGINIA NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS
WASHINGTON COUNTY, VIRGINIA NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS
The Board of Supervisors of Washington County, Virginia, hereby gives notice of its intent to conduct public hearings at its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as may be heard regarding the following three proposed ordinances. A copy of the full text of each ordinance is on file and available for public inspection in the office of the Washington County Administrator and, also, on the County’s website at www.washcova.com.
- AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 22-33 OF THE CODE OF THE COUNTY OF WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA, TO ESTABLISH A VOTER SATELLITE OFFICE FOR ABSENTEE VOTING IN PERSON PRIOR TO THE ELECTION: Adoption of the ordinance would establish that space in the Virginia Higher Education Center may serve as a location for absentee voting in person prior to all elections including municipal elections. If adopted, the ordinance requires that at least 55 days prior to an election, the Voter Registrar will post notice of availability of the satellite office for in-person voting prior to the election.
- AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 58-84 OF THE CODE OF THE COUNTY OF WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA, TO ESTABLISH A THREE-YEAR CYCLE FOR APPLICATIONS FOR REAL PROPERTY TAX DISCOUNT FOR QUALIFYING ELDERLY OR DISABLED PROPERTY OWNERS: Adoption of the ordinance would revise the application process for qualifying elderly or disabled property owners to receive a discount on the tax of their real property, including manufactured homes. Instead of annual applications, the ordinance would establish that a detailed application would only be required every three years. In the second and third years between detailed applications, the applicant would only have to file a short form to certify that no significant changes had occurred to affect their qualification for the discount.
- AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND APPENDIX A OF THE CODE OF THE COUNTY OF WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA, TO INCREASE THE COURTHOUSE SECURITY FEE TO $20: Adoption of the ordinance would increase from $10 to $20 the fee charged to any person convicted of a violation of any criminal or traffic offense in Washington County General District and Circuit Courts. Revenue from the collection of the fee is used to help fund costs to the Sheriff to provide courthouse security.
