Notice of Public Hearings

The Board of Supervisors of Washington County, Virginia, hereby gives notice of its intent to conduct public hearings at its regular meeting on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as may be heard regarding the following proposed ordinances. A copy of the full text of each ordinance is on file and available for public inspection in the office of the Washington County Administrator and, also, on the County’s website at www.washcova.com.

1. AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS 30-33, 30-36, AND 30-39 OF THE CODE OF THE COUNTY OF WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA, TO DISCONTINUE REGULATION OF ANIMAL SOUNDS BY THE COUNTY NOISE ORDINANCE. Adoption of the ordinance would remove animal sounds from regulation by the County noise ordinance.

2. AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 46, SECTION 46-31 OF THE CODE OF THE COUNTY OF WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA, TO REVISE COUNTY PROCEDURES FOR AWARD OF CONTRACTS AND OTHER SECTIONS IN CHAPTER 46 TO UPDATE TERMINOLOGY. Adoption of the ordinance would remove the threshold values for award of contracts by the County purchasing agent and, instead, refer to the County Purchasing Procedures Manual as the source for the thresholds. The ordinance would establish that the Board of Supervisors may, by adopted resolution, authorize additional authority for approvals by the purchasing agent and County Administrator for specified circumstances where more streamlined approval is in the public interest. The ordinance also updates nomenclature to “purchasing agent” instead of “accounting/purchasing manager”.

The public hearings will be held in the Board of Supervisors Auditorium at the County Administration Offices located at 1 Government Center Place; Abingdon, Virginia. All citizens of Washington County are invited to attend, but the number of audience may be limited to provide safe distancing.
