Washington County, Virginia - Public Hearings - January 25, 2021 & Febuary 9, 2021

The Washington County, Virginia, Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings on the zoning application and proposed ordinance listed below.  The hearings will be held at the following times or as soon thereafter as may be held:  the Commission hearing will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 25, 2021, and the Board hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.  Both hearings will be held in the Board of Supervisors Auditorium at 1 Government Center Place; Abingdon, Virginia.

  1. John Paul & Tomarah Rhae Murray, Property Tax Map #105-4-11: Request to rezone approximately 20.72 acres of property located at 23431 Berry Creek Road, Abingdon, Virginia 24211, near the intersection of State Route 793 (Berry Creek Road) and Trigg Street from R-2 (Residential, General) to A-2 (Agricultural, General), Madison Magisterial District, Madison (C-11) Election District.

2.   Proposed Ordinance to amend Sections 52-174, 52-175, 63-47, 63-51, and 63-53 of the Code of the County of Washington, Virginia, to allow private alternative on-site and discharging sewage disposal systems.  The current ordinance allows private sewage treatment systems only if they are dependent upon subsurface soil absorption methods of sewage treatment, such as conventional septic systems. The proposed ordinance, if adopted, would also allow privately owned and operated sewage disposal systems that are either alternative on-site treatment systems or alternative discharging systems as such are regulated by the Virginia Department of Health and/or Department of Environmental Quality.
