WASHINGTON COUNTY, VIRGINIA PUBLIC HEARING

Public hearings will be held on the following proposed ordinance by the Planning Commission of Washington County, Virginia, on Monday, August 23, 2021, 7:00 p.m. or as soon thereafter as may be heard and by the Board of Supervisors of Washington County, Virginia, on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, 6:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as may be heard.  Both public hearings will be held in the Board of Supervisors Auditorium at the County Administration Offices located at 1 Government Center Place; Abingdon, Virginia.

An Ordinance to Amend Section 66-1242 of the Code of the County of Washington, Virginia, to Allow Large-Scale Solar Energy Projects in the Residential Districts (R-1 and R-2) with Special Exception Permit

Adoption of the ordinance would allow large-scale solar energy projects to be installed in the residentially-zoned districts but only after Board of Supervisors’ review of the application for each such project and determination that issuance of a special exception permit would be appropriate, on a case-by-case basis.  The full text of the proposed ordinance may be found on the County website (www.washcova.com) and at the County Administrative Division Offices at 1 Government Center Place; Abingdon, Virginia. Individuals requiring physical or sensory accommodations or additional information, please call the Administrative Supervisor, Office of the County Administrator, (276) 525-1300, or call 1-800-828-1120 for TTY/TDD relay services.  In addition to the public hearing, citizens may submit comments by U.S. mail to the Abingdon address shown above, by email to https://www.washcova.com/contact-us/, by voicemail at 276-525-1300, or by placing written comments in the drop-box outside the second-floor entry to the Government Center Building.  All comments received before 6 p.m. the day of the meeting will be presented to the Board during the meeting.  A link for live-stream video of the meeting will be posted at the time of the meeting on the County website “Public Meetings” page.
