Washington County, Virginia Public Hearing - Revise Election District Boundaries
A public hearing will be held on the following proposed ordinance by the Board of Supervisors of Washington County, Virginia, on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as may be heard in the Board of Supervisors Auditorium at the County Government Center, Suite A; 1 Government Center Place; Abingdon, Virginia 24210.
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 22, ARTICLE II OF THE CODE OF THE COUNTY OF WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA, TO REVISE ELECTION DISTRICT BOUNDARIES FOR ELECTION DISTRICTS A, E, F, AND G FOR ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AND SCHOOL BOARD AND TO REVISE THE GREEN COVE/DAMASCUS VOTING PRECINCT BOUNDARY IN ELECTION DISTRICT E. As required by the Constitution of Virginia and state law, the Board of Supervisors is required to revise local election district boundaries every ten years as necessary to result, as nearly as is practicable, in equal representation within election districts on the basis of the U.S. Census decennial population data. The proposed ordinance would revise boundaries as described in the ordinance title to achieve the constitutional and state law requirements. In addition, a precinct boundary adjustment as described in the title is included for the convenience of residents in the affected precinct.

Written comments may be directed to attention of the County Attorney, and all written comments received before 5 p.m. the day of the public hearing will be provided to the Board.
