PUBLIC HEARINGS: PROPOSED ORDINANCE TO AMEND CODE TO ALLOW SPECIFIED ROCK QUARRY BY SEP IN A-1 ZONING DISTRICT

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS

The Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors of Washington County, Virginia, hereby give notice of intent to conduct public hearings regarding a proposed ordinance, as follows.   The public hearings will be held in the Board of Supervisors Auditorium at the County Administration Offices located at 1 Government Center Place; Abingdon, Virginia.

The Commission hearing will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 7:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as may be heard, after which the Commission will decide a recommendation for consideration by the Board.

The Board hearing will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 6:30 p.m., or as soon thereafter as may be heard, after which the Board will decide whether to adopt the proposed ordinance.

Proposal:
An Ordinance to Amend Section 66-298 of the Code of the County of Washington, Virginia, To Allow Specified Rock Quarry and Related Activities By Special Exception Permit in the Agricultural-Limited (A-1) Zoning District

Adoption of the ordinance would allow the following uses by special exception permit in the Agricultural-Limited (A-1) zoning district of the County: (1) Cement, lime, gypsum manufacture; (2) Crushed stone operations, including quarrying in association with such operations; and (3) Sand and gravel operations, including quarrying in association with such operations. Special exception permit requires specific consideration and public hearings on each application by the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors.
