IMMEDIATE RELEASE County Issues Declaration of Emergency Due to Recent Storms

IMMEDIATE RELEASE- County Issues Declaration of Emergency Due to Recent Storms

Effective 12:00 PM today, April 13, 2020, County Administrator Jason Berry declares a second state of emergency for Washington County, Virginia. This declaration of an emergency is due to the storms that passed through our region last night.  Damage assessments are currently underway and at this time we have confirmed four landslides, several damaged homes, numerous trees down, and multiple impassable roads.  This morning 18 people were evacuated from a Woodby Lane apartment complex, two were evacuated off Wyndale Road and two were evacuated in Henderson Court in the Town of Abingdon.  We anticipate more issues as rain continues and the rivers crest.

The Board of Supervisors Chairman Dwayne Ball has called a Special Called Meeting, that will take place via teleconference call on Wednesday April 15, 2020 at 5:30 PM, where only the ratification of the Declaration of a State of Emergency will be discussed.
