Notice of Public Hearings

The Board of Supervisors of Washington County, Virginia, hereby gives notice of its intent to conduct public hearings at its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as may be heard regarding the following proposed ordinances. A copy of the full text of each ordinance is on file and available for public inspection in the office of the Washington County Administrator and, also, on the County’s website at www.washcova.com. Links to the ordinances are provided below.

1. AN ORDINANCE TO ADD SECTION 58-48 TO THE CODE OF THE COUNTY OF WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA, TO REVISE PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX DECLARATION REQUIREMENTS. Adoption of the ordinance would reduce the filing frequency required by the Commissioner of the Revenue for personal property declarations for motor vehicles, boats, and trailers. After filing a declaration of ownership of a motor vehicle, boat, or trailer, another declaration would not be required unless specified changes occur.
2. AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 58-107 AND APPENDIX A AND TO ADD SECTION 58-109 TO THE CODE OF THE COUNTY OF WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA, TO REDUCE REVALIDATION FILING FREQUENCY AND TO ESTABLISH LATE FILING DUE DATES AND ASSOCIATED FEES FOR THE LAND USE TAX ASSESSMENT PROGRAM. Adoption of the ordinance would reduce the frequency of filing required by the Commissioner of the Revenue for revalidation applications for continued participation in the County land use tax assessment program and would establish due dates and late fees for late filing. The County ordinance now requires annual revalidation, and the proposed revision would reduce the frequency to every four years. The ordinance would establish a due date and a late filing period with payment of a late fee. The revalidation fee would be assessed every six years.
3. AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS IN CHAPTER 63 (UTILITIES) OF THE CODE OF THE COUNTY OF WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA, TO ADD REFERENCES TO VIRGINIA ADMINISTRATIVE CODE SECTIONS AND FOR NON-SUBSTANTIVE EDITORIAL REVISIONS. Adoption of the ordinance would add references to applicable Virginia Administrative Code provisions and make other editorial improvements and corrections.
Public hearings will be held in the Board of Supervisors Auditorium at the County Administration Offices located at 1 Government Center Place; Abingdon, Virginia.
